GENERAL FACTS ABOUT SENSOR TECHNOLOGY

Sensor technology refers to the science and application of sensors for the measurement and control of changes in environmental, biological or technical systems.

The scope and definition of sensor technology varies in German-speaking countries. It may be grouped into  sensor elements of measuring technology, or it may be grouped into exclusively binary systems, meaning switchboard systems (e.g. light barriers), while others also include automated measuring systems used in laboratories and industry.

What all sensor technology has in common is that it deals with technical products which in general convert non-electric measuring quantities into electric signals. In many instances, so-called standard signals are applied or increasingly in recent times, field busses.
